Preserving a Shoreline

I invite you to support my efforts to preserve the natural beauty of the East Point Shoreline in Toronto. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the area, it's the most eastern part of the Scarborough Bluffs. This shoreline is at risk of being paved for recreational purposes. Toronto has enough concrete. Hardening this shoreline will permanently destroy the beauty of the area. East Point Shoreline is about 5 km long; it's one of the last undeveloped areas of our city. Please help Keep it Natural. Let the TRCA know how you feel. Thank you!

Walking through the Guild Woods

Fallen Ash Sunday May 7, 2017 was another successful and well-attended walk led by Steve Smith and Jen Falvy of Friends of the Bluffs with 52 guests attending! What a wonderful way to meet fellow nature enthusiasts from the local community and greater Toronto region.  In addition to our regular community event listing in the Bluffs Monitor we listed our walk in the Jane's Walk network which drew guests from the west end, downtown, and as far as Thornhill, Ontario. We'd like to thank our guests for their understanding in accepting the change of our walking route. Initially we planned to go along the Guild shoreline and talk about the history of the shoreline, and erosion measures with the service road though we received an email from the TRCA on Friday informing us that road access to the lake would be closed for the weekend due to high water levels. A Walking Tour of Grey Abbey Park

J oin us Sunday February 12th at 2:00pm We will be meeting at Grey Abbey Park: 190 Greyabbey Trail in Scarborough.  Just  east of Morningside Avenue, on Greyabbey Trail. Parking on street. A 3 minute walk from bus stop on Morningside. TTC bus #116a or #116c from Kennedy Station. Travel time 15 minutes from subway. East Point Park Bird Sanctuary, Scarborough, ON Bluffer's Beach, Scarborough, ON The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority has selected a number of alternatives for various segments of the Scarborough Waterfront Project that will destroy and diminish natural areas and convert them to paved asphalt roads.  Their current plans include paving 1.7 km of the natural sand beach of Grey Abbey which will lead to paving a large segment of the natural trails that meander through the East Point Park Bird Sanctuary. And on the north east section of Bluffer's Beach they will be converting the natural sand trails into a road.  The TRCA claims they are bound by policy direction. Bank Swallows flying along the bluffs The Bank Swallow; Riparia Riparia  Status in Ontario: Threatened Location: East Point Park and Bird Sanctuary East Scarborough, Toronto Ontario “Threatened ” means the species lives in the wild but is likely to become endangered if steps are not taken to address factors threatening it. A few facts about this delightful song bird: Bank Swallows nest in burrows along vertical faces of silt, sand or clay.
